The official staff of the GDR State Security produced millions of photographs, but they themselves are rarely seen in them. In this way, the Stasi hid its secret-police work from the public. This book is the result of extensive research in the Stasi Records Archive for photographs – most previously unpublished – of these employees of the GDR State Security. Supplemented by biographical sketches of the people photographed, it provides special insight into the everyday life of the secret police.
